Yes, an application must be submitted.  In some cases justification with proof must be provided. Visa Sri Lanka is always ready to go the extra mile to get your visa EXTENSION.
An ETA is an official authorization issued by the Department of Immigration and Emigration, Sri Lanka, for a 30-day short visit to Sri Lanka at the port of entry.  The ETA can be obtained on-line, and is not endorsed on your passport.
All foreign nationals need prior visa to be stamped on their passports before entering Sri Lanka.  All holiday and business travellers now need Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) for entering Sri Lanka.  However, on the basis of reciprocity, subjects of The Republic of Singapore, The Republic of Maldives, and The Republic of Seychelles are not required to obtain ETAs to visit Sri Lanka.
